“It’s important to make women feel confident because I think they are more important than men.”
Today we have lost an icon. Couturier Azzedine Alaïa created powerful figure-enhancing designs that projected a sense of empowerment. He has created masterpieces for Greta Garbo, Grace Jones, Lady Gaga, and Michelle Obama to name a few. As a teenager, Azzedine Alaïa studied sculpture, so it’s no wonder his designs are treated almost like works of art. His attention to detail was legendary – “he’s incredibly focused on what he does; you can’t disturb him,” says Grace Coddington. He never conformed to the “rules” of the fashion world, working on his own creative schedule. Azzedine Alaïa believed that a woman should always feel good and at ease in her clothing, which is why his designs are still loved after 30 years.
In honour of Azzedine Alaïa we have curated some of his amazing pieces from his recent collection.
